Welcome to the official page of the Summer School on “Democracy and Human Rights for Personal and Social Well-being”. Held in July of 2026 in Athens, Greece, a historic landmark as the cradle of Democracy. This international academic experience is organized by the largest University in Greece, the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the European Wergeland Centre.

Eligibility

Program Structure & Curriculum
Total Duration: 21 Days
Total Credits: 9 ECTS (3 per week)
You may choose to attend 1, 2 or 3 weeks
Week 1: Democracy and Human Rights as the cornerstone of sustainable development and social well-being
Courses:
History and Evolution of Democratic Ideals and Human Rights: The Role of the Greek Heritage
Intercultural and Interreligious Awareness and Dialogue as prerequisites of Applied Democratic Culture
Well-being and Mental Health as Human Rights
Week 2: Active Citizenship and Applied Human Rights in the Digital and Real life
Courses:
Sustainability, Social Responsibility and Education for Democratic Culture in the Modern World
Digital Citizenship and Management of the Digital World of Artificial Intelligence
Applications of Human Rights for Sustainable Personal and Social Well-being
Week 3: Arts as a Tool for Sustainable Development, Personal and Social Change
Tools for Sustainable Development, Democratic Culture and Professional Development
The Role of the Arts in Democratic Expression and Social Change
Art, Communities and Ecological Democracy
Each course includes experiential activities, workshops, and educational visits as an application of theoretical knowledge in real cultural, social and natural environments.
